October 10 -- ISSP Course Survey
We are in the process of determining the course schedule for 2010. Let us know what courses you are most interested in taking. Take the course survey.
September 1—ISSP Competency Study
You are invited to participate in ISSP's first research project. We are trying to answer the question, "what should a sustainability professional need to know how to do?" The results of this research will help bring cohesion and definition to this emerging profession, inform the design of educational programs and help you prepare for your future.
All responses are completely confidential. You will not be contacted as a result of your participation unless you indicate an interest in being contacted. The survey will take about 15-20 minutes to complete, depending on your answers. All participants are eligible to win $150 credit toward ISSP membership or classes!

July 15—ISSP Forming Member Committees. Apply now!
Membership on one of ISSP's member committees is an excellent way to network with other sustainability professionals and play a central role in keeping your colleagues well informed of developments that enhance our ability to expand the triple bottom line. Committee membership is also a valuable tool for demonstrating to employers your commitment to the profession and professional expertise!
We currently have TWO opportunities for involvement
1. ISSP Public Affairs Committee
ISSP seeks to keep its members informed about the changes and innovations in sustainability practice throughout the U.S. and around the world that impact sustainability professionals. To this end, we are launching a new Public Affairs committee. The committee’s mission will be to keep the greater membership informed of current events and innovative sustainability practices and projects,
trends, regulations, incentives, and partnerships in the areas and regions in which ISSP members live and work.
The committee will be composed of 10 to 15 ISSP members, each serving a two-year term. We seek geographical diversity from all the places where ISSP members are active. Committee member contributions will be featured on the ISSP web-site and in the quarterly ISSP newsletter.
Member Matt Slavin has agreed to chair this committee for its first two-year term of operation. We encourage all those interested in Committee membership to send an email to Matt at Matt Slavin notifying him of your interest by September 15. Your email should include. . .
- contact information
- a short (100-120 word) statement describing a project, event, or other item
you think of interest to other ISSP sustainability professionals, - a brief (120 word) professional biography.
Final decisions on committee appointments will be made by the ISSP Board of Directors.
For additional information on the Public Affairs Committee, please email Matt Slavin .
2. ISSP Author Awards Committee
The purpose of this committee is to recognize significant contribution to sustainability with ISSP Awards and in the process keep our members informed about the important literature and other forms of communication in the field while at the same time elevating the status and recognition of ISSP.
Once the selection and award criteria are set, committee members will solicit and review nominations and select winners in each of the designated categories. We are asking for a two year (or two award rounds) commitment.
Member Mark Edwards has agreed to chair this committee. If you are interested in participating send your letter of interest to Mark along with. . .

June 10—ISSP partners with SBEX - the Sustainability Pro Bono Exchange
ISSP is happy to announce a strategic partnership with a cutting-edge new social initiative known as Sustainability Pro Bono Exchange (SPBEX). Billed as the “Global (Ex)change for Local Sustainability,” SPBEX was established based on one simple, powerful idea: it should be easy for organizations and professionals to connect and collaborate on pro bono green and sustainability projects -- wherever they are in the world. This is what SPBEX offers. The vision of SPBEX is to be THE go-to sustainability volunteering marketplace. This "self-service” clearinghouse is for: (1) green and sustainability professionals offering pro bono services AND (2) local governments, small & medium sized enterprises (SMEs), NGOs, foundations, research institutes, and other resource-constrained organizations seeking such services. Post your organization’s needs or your professional offerings to facilitate your matching up. Success stories and a scroll of honor are planned for publication on the SPBEX home page and joint activities with ISSP are also foreseen.
For more information and free sign up, go to http://SPBEX.org . Just 12 weeks after its launch, SPBEX has already surpassed 320 member organizations and professionals! SPBEX has recently been accepted as a member network of V360° Sustainability, a global green professionals knowledge and networking alliance chaired by ISSP Board Member Fabio Vancini.
ISSP CALL TO ACTION: Please send the http://SPBEX.org link to colleagues, friends and organizations in your network and encourage them to sign up! Please also consider including the SPBEX.org link/logo on your web site.

Marsha Willard, the Executive Director of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), believes her organization goes beyond niche to address the entire profession...
