Would you like the opportunity to make real connections with other sustainability professionals in the Chicagoland area? This is ISSP Chicagoland’s first in-person networking event!
With so many new and emerging opportunities to accelerate sustainability, being connected and sharing ideas is critical to achieving our personal and professional goals. A few local ISSP members are organizing a networking event for February 15, 2018, and we'd love for you to join us!
We will be joined at this meeting by Julie Reiter, VP of Human Resources and Sustainable Development for Clarke on Utilizing Appreciative Inquiry as a Strategic Planning and Organizational Change Management Tool for Embedding Sustainability.
In 2008, Clarke, an environmental products and services organization, went through a process of discovering their strengths and then envisioned a future based in their perceived strengths. The journey started with an exercise in dreaming, discovering and envisioning a future based on the company’s strengths. Through the process, they discovered that instead of a company that was considered solid, reliable, and tough they imagined a future company attuned to nature, birds, green, and salmon - a salmon swimming upstream willing to sacrifice itself to protect future generations. At that moment, Lyell Clarke, Clarke CEO, realized that the struggle he was having was also a struggle deep within his senior management team and that his employees also longed for a company with greater meaning and purpose. Since then, Clarke has held pivotal events in 2008, 2012 and 2016, utilizing Appreciative Inquiry as a way to tap into the deep strengths of the organization in order to dream, design and deploy new innovations that keep them at the forefront of sustainability and innovation in their industry.
