WEBINAR RECORDING: The Business Case for Life Cycle Assessment

They say you can’t manage what you haven’t measured. In 2014, DIRTT Environmental Solutions completed a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its environmental impacts, quantifying results per square meter of its building product, a prefabricated modular wall for building interiors. The company now knows the size of its environmental footprint and is actively working on diminishing it. Reductions will also contribute to the company’s bottom line, proof that an LCA adds immediate business value.

Recorded live on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11:00 am PT / 2:00 pm ET

An exercise like an LCA for a manufacturer is truly a journey. It took more than two years for the Sustainability Team to convince senior management to support an LCA, and then months to conduct as staff assiduously collected information for consultant Climate Earth’s analysis. The Institute for Environmental Research and Education (IERE), a non-profit with expertise in LCA, chaired the Product Category Rule (PCR) committee and completed the PCR for demountable walls in record time – less than four months. The IERE also verified the consultant, Climate Earth’s work as part of a third party review. The final results are everything DIRTT’s sustainability team hoped for, in spite of challenges and mistakes made along the way.

Attend this presentation to understand the implications of undertaking an LCA, how to create a convincing business case for senior management’s approval, and why an LCA is the foundation stone for diminishing the environmental and financial impacts of a company’s operations.

Key takeaways from this webinar include:

  • Learn about the real-world challenges and rewards of conducting an LCA, PCR and EPDs
  • Explore an effective process for working with consultants on the project
  • Develop a case for support to get around organizational barriers
  • Understand how LCA results can be deployed to reduce manufacturing costs and improve the bottom line financially and environmentally
