WEBINAR RECORDING: The Sustainability Consortium - Using Science and Multi-Stakeholder Engagement to Improve Consumer Products
Recorded live on Thursday March 5, 2015 at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST
A more sustainable economy requires more sustainable consumer products. The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) was formed in 2009 in order to develop a standard way for retailers, manufacturers, and their suppliers across different consumer product sectors to measure and communicate information about product sustainability.
Retailers such as Walmart, Ahold, and Kroger have begun to implement TSC’s decision tools, which currently cover products representing about two-thirds of the total global impacts of consumer goods. TSC uses scientific research and multi-stakeholder engagement to develop category sustainability profiles that summarize the hotspots, improvement opportunities, and key performance indicators associated with different consumer product categories (e.g., mobile phone, beef, cotton textiles).
This webinar will describe our stakeholder engagement approach, highlight some of the general patterns of hotspots and improvement opportunities we see across different industry sectors of consumer products, and highlight how retailers and manufacturers are using the information to make better decisions.
Who Should Attend?
This webinar is useful for any sustainability professional interested in learning how The Sustainability Consortium has brought together corporations, civil society organizations, and government to create decision tools that aim to improve consumer product sustainability through product design, supply chain management, and consumer education.
