They will share technical details of the LBC, the development of the building and the certification process, and the relevance of the LBC to Sustainability Professionals.

Experience the Living Building Challenge at the Alice Ferguson Foundation

Saturday, May 20th, 2017 from 9:45am – 2:00pm
Alice Ferguson Foundation
2001 Bryan Point Road
Accokeek, MD 20607

We are pleased to partner with Leaders in Energy, Net Impact, and the USGBC National Capital Region Chapter (LEED CEUs) to offer this event. Join other Sustainability Professionals from the DC Metro area to visit one of the few Living Building Challenge projects in the world. The Alice Ferguson Foundation (AFF), located on the Potomac River, recently completed one year of operating a Living Building in their environmental education center. Join us on May 20th for a panel of experts involved in the project and dedicated to furthering green building practices. Learn more about the Living Building Challenge at https://living-future.org/lbc/basics/.

The Alice Ferguson Foundation’s educational programs unite students, educators, park rangers, communities, regional organizations, and government agencies throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to promote the environmental sustainability of the Potomac River watershed. Learn more at http://fergusonfoundation.org

Plan to arrive at 9:45 for a day of inspiring content and activities. The event will include a tour of the building, hands-on activities, lunch, and a rich panel discussion about The Living Building, including lessons learned, challenges and what went wrong, technical systems, and more. The event ends at 2pm but plan to stay after to tour the grounds and network with sustainability peers.   Dress comfortably and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Daniel Pedersen, PhD, VP of Science & Standards, Green Seal will moderate our panel of speakers who are experts with experience managing a living building project:

  • Lori Arguelles, Executive Director of the Alice Ferguson Foundation
  • Molly Simpson, Program Analyst, Green Affordable Housing, DC Department of Energy & Environment
  • Merrell Ashley, Principal & Director of Sustainability, rand* construction corporation
  • Sandy Wiggins, Principal of Consilience, LLC, a consultancy with a mission to foster environmentally, socially and economically sustainable communities

In keeping with their environmental mission, AFF limits parking and encourages carpooling. Closer to the event the organizers will send emails to coordinate ride-sharing.
