EMS—Environmental Management System, a method for creating continuous improvement in environmental performance. The 'gold standard' for EMS's is ISO-14001.


Daylighting—Designing buildings to make the best use of natural light.


Biodiesel—Diesel made from plant rather than fossil fuel sources. B-20 is 20% biodiesel and 80% regular diesel. B-100 is 100% biodiesel.


Backcasting—A planning process that involves working backward from a sustainable state rather than forecasting which begins from your current state. Generally associated with The Natural Step framework.
