Join Others Who are Changing the World
For the last four years, the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) has gathered a group of sustainability professionals from various industries and sectors to create a network within a developing industry.
As the premiere international association of sustainability practitioners, we offer the people who are consulting and directing organizations on their sustainability efforts a chance to connect with each other. We help you build relationships and resumes. We help them share resources and best practices. We help them develop their careers and expertise. As an organization, we are enlarging the knowledge base of the community that is changing the world for the better. You can help us shape this emerging industry.
"Together we have the knowledge, skills, connections, and will to accomplish the necessary acceleration of sustainability strategies in all sectors.”
—Bob Willard, best selling author of The Next Sustainability Wave and The Sustainability Advantage, ISSP founding member

“It's an exciting time to be a sustainability professional, but it also can be overwhelming and lonely. As the greening of business has gone from the margins to the mainstream, there is a vital need to bring cohesion and credibility to the field. ISSP fills this gap by creating a space for professionals to sharpen their skills and learn from one another, helping all of us become more effective at finding solutions for our companies and clients.”
— Joel Makower, Executive Editor, GreenBiz.com, ISSP founding member
Developing the professional, defining the industry
Recognizing that the sustainability industry is still in its infancy, and that many sustainability professionals come from a wide range of sectors, ISSP now offers a Professional Certificate Program for Sustainability Professionals. Meant for practitioners who need to fill in “gaps” in their education or for professionals moving into this new field, our online workshops are taught by luminaries and thought leaders. Participants receive a quality education in the skills most needed on the job.
ISSP also conducts research, and we will soon release the results of a Competency Study that asked the question: "What should a sustainability professional know how to do?" We believe the answer will not only be of keen interest to our members, but to employers and institutions of higher education as well.
“I’m proud to be part of that [ISSP].”
