ABOUT THE EVENT
When it comes to the climate crisis, we need out-of-the-box solutions. So why do we keep operating our meetings and work processes the same way? Earth Hacks works with organizations to host environmental hackathons focused on creating innovative, equitable, and just solutions to the climate crisis.
In this 90-minute workshop, ISSP members will participate in a collaborative session that will provide them with new strategies and creative problem solving techniques. We will divide the group into two breakout sessions of 20 people to allow for active collaboration.
Objectives
- Technology reflects systemic biases if not intentionally designed for equity. Be critical of tech's impacts and amplify its liberatory potential
- Challenge norms of efficiency, growth, and "innovation" as ends in themselves; consider sustainability, justice, empowerment as primary aims
- Center the voices and expertise of marginalized communities in technological design processes
- Apply an environmental justice lens by assessing access, benefits, harms, and power dynamics in tech systems
